There is no frunk in the ID.7 Tourer

I was excited about the ID.7 Tourer until I realized it doesn’t have a front boot or frunk. I sometimes go fishing, and I fully load the back on long trips, and having to unload everything just to access the charging cable would be a pain. I’m really hoping there’s at least a bit of space under the bonnet to store it. Without that, I’m not sure the Tourer will work for my needs.

Yeah, the lack of a frunk in the ID.7 Tourer is kind of a bummer, and a lost chance. They focused on maximizing interior cabin space, so they didn’t build in a front storage area. One idea might be to use a small, easily accessible storage bin in the back to keep the cable handy without unloading everything. There's a lot from amazon or ebay, that's usually for EVs. I know it’s not quite the same, but it might work as a compromise. Hopefully, they will consider adding a frunk in future models, even if it's small!

Usually, VW doesn't leave any spare space in that area.

That’s disappointing! I was really hoping for at least a small storage area up front. If VW typically doesn’t leave space there, it might limit the Tourer’s practicality for trips like mine. Guess I’ll keep looking

IMO I would rather have more space inside the car than space in front of it.

Also you would really, really have to load the thing up in order to not be able to access your charging cable. Usually when you are on a longer trip you use don't use your charging cable. If you are at a cabin/hotel, you need to get your luggage inside anyways. If you stop to fish you need to get your stuff out anyways. When you are on the road you don't use your cable.

Even if you find a case where you have a fully loaded car and you need to charge for 6-12 hours, you have side pockets (number 1) for these situations, where they allow cables and stuff to be stored such that you can access it even if the car is fully loaded. Worst case you have to flip up the flap (number 2). But if you know you are on a trip where you need the charging cable why put it in under there.

My dad had a model S and then switched to an X and he never used or uses the frunk because you are explicitly told that you will scratch the paint if you use it allot, and in order to close it you have to press down on it which if you do wrong will make a dent. Its not the "drop from a height" move you often think it is. Idk if the other models have that though.

If you had argued for the fact that you don't want to smell the fish in the car, I would have agreed that its a valid point, you could still get some smell through the ventilation, but the charging cable? Really...

I been using my ID7 for a bit over a year now and i'd like to share that i've never ran out of space. The trunk is bigger than that of my 2014 CC, which was already big enough. I have never even thought about a frunk with that car - just because it's something that EVs utilize, i never needed that extra space. We shouldn't and why even argue about it - it's super convenient if you have it. But having so much space in the back... like i said, never even thought about "what if that car had a frunk". Just my thoughts after a year with the ID7...
